I sure have... Soon after opening my business, at 29-years-young, I decided to go on a 10-day trip to Nevada in the summer of 2005 to connect with some friends for a grand art festival. I was feeling up for an adventure, eager to be nurtured by art and nature, and definitely craving a get-a-way. But, with my business under one year old at the time, I was just barely squeaking by financially. From a bookkeeping perspective going on vacation was a bold and, frankly, bad idea. In addition to the expense of the trip itself, since I wouldn’t have internet or phone access for the full ten days, I was also running the risk of halting the bit of business momentum that I had just begun to build! Although I didn’t love it, I did it... I made a practice of regularly attending networking events – because, well, that’s what you do when you start a business, right? With my newly printed business cards tucked into the pocket of one of the two business-y outfits I owned, and my old car intentionally hidden at least 6 blocks away, I told anyone who would listen that Life Coaching is what I do. I made several new and wonderful connections at these events, yet I craved a deeper connection. I wanted to know more than their line of work. I was eager to know what was really important to them... While my learning curve wasn’t easy or particularly dreamy, these years later, I have the privilege and honor to regularly connect with people about their deepest desires, and I share how to bridge the gap between them and their dreams to create a life they love! My intuition-over-logic vacation...
While going on vacation made no logical sense whatsoever, my intuition said yes. Boldly following intuition over logic had been a common thread throughout my journey. So I figured, why stop now? ☺ On faith, I chose intuition as I have done so many times in my life. And, what transpired over those 10 days in the Nevada desert was deeply transformative, joyful, challenging, cathartic, and most of all, profoundly HEART-OPENING. A sense of expansiveness, timelessness, and present-moment focus gently pervaded my experience with such depth that the inevitable end of the festival and return home wasn’t given any thought or concern. I was just blissfully “in the experience”. And, what a gift that was! A personal turning point... When the time came to return home, I did so happily, savoring the heart-space that I was in. However, once home, things changed quickly and dramatically. I found myself crying in parking lots simply because they were parking lots. I was suddenly claustrophobic in cars and even my own living room. I was also acutely aware of and effected by the sadness of strangers passing by. In my attempts to describe the experience to friends, I used phrases like “I feel suffocated,” “I’ve expanded,” and “I no longer fit my life.” A life coach who no longer fits her life is not exactly a recipe for success... When weeks passed and these symptoms showed no signs of letting up, I knew something had to change. I had all but decided to sell my house and buy a one-way ticket anywhere to begin a nomadic lifestyle. Frustrated, I professed, “There just aren’t enough places to dream here!” I realized that I desperately needed more room to nurture, unabashedly explore, and uncover my biggest, boldest life dreams and goals. Friends who had been trying to persuade me to stay, reluctantly surrendered to my deep need for change, and instead, offered to help me pack. I had narrowed my options down to two choices: fight or flight… Either create what I longed for, or travel the world looking for it. Out of a personal challenge, came an event like no other... Alas, The Dream Party® was born over the next 48 hours, thankfully faster than I could pack! It came to me in chunks. I was awakened in the night by “ideas” and found myself at the kitchen table, writing them down, while still half-asleep. The Party was “an excuse for me to stay,” I said. While I suspected that others felt a need for such an event, I was admittedly doing it because I needed it. My efforts paid off when over 100 people attended the first Dream Party and thank you’s and testimonials followed.

How in the world...?
In the middle of the night I had received the inspiration for this event – but not the revenue. While I knew that I had to figure out a way to bring the event to fruition, I had no idea HOW I was going to do it! I was totally intimidated by the prospect, but I knew this much: I needed a venue, and I needed a time machine. That’s right...a time machine. The first ‘help wanted’ ad I ever placed for my business was on Craigslist entitled: “Time Machine artist needed” and within just 48 hours I received over 40 responses from artists eager for the job! I knew The Dream Party deserved a special location, despite my budget. With clear vision, focused persistence, and no shortage of fear, I managed to negotiate for a stunningly beautiful, expansive venue in downtown Providence after convincing the management to “sponsor” the event and rent me the space for only $62 (a security guard fee). You better believe that I surprised myself with this outcome! Proving, yet again, that when there’s a will, there’s a way!

Not a problem. In fact, add that to the many reasons to be there!
